About Me

I am a clinical academic health psychologist and behavioural science consultant with experience spanning the NHS, academia, and health policy. My work focuses on supporting individuals with mental health challenges, long-term conditions, and behaviour change, while also leading research and policy initiatives that shape healthcare at a national level.

Clinical Experience

I currently work as a Consultant Health Psychologist in a London-based NHS bariatric surgery and complex obesity service, helping individuals navigate the psychological and behavioural aspects of weight loss surgery, GLP-1 injections, and obesity-related health conditions. This can often include difficulties such as binge eating disorder, body dysmorphia, emotional eating, self-esteem issues, and trauma or PTSD. Before this, I was a Specialist Health Psychologist at St Thomas’ Hospital, where I worked in a nationally recognised NHS persistent pain service, supporting people with complex physical and mental health conditions.

Through my NHS and clinical career, I have also worked across cancer, diabetes, fibromyalgia, mental health, and public health services, helping individuals manage their psychological wellbeing alongside long-term conditions. My expertise extends to supporting people with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, identity shifts, and behaviour change.

In addition to my health psychology background, I have completed additional training in psychotherapy. I completed a postgraduate diploma in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, deepening my understanding of unconscious processes, relational patterns, and the impact of early experiences on mental health. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, working with individuals experiencing PTSD and trauma, including cases where past experiences contribute to both mental and physical health challenges.

Alongside my clinical work, I have been involved in clinical research, including the development and delivery of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) interventions for people living with conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS).

Beyond my NHS work, and in my private practice, I support a wide range of clients seeking therapy for issues such as trauma, anxiety, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and life transitions. My therapeutic approach is tailored to each person’s needs, drawing from psychodynamic insight, EMDR, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioural approaches, somatic awareness, and compassion-focused therapy.

Academic and Research Experience

Alongside my clinical work, I am a Clinical Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at King's College London, where I teach on the MSc Health Psychology programme and supervise PhD students and Trainee Psychologists. I also conduct research and lead multidisciplinary teams of academics and clinicians. Prior to this, I was a Senior Research Fellow at University College London (UCL), holding a prestigious National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Fellowship. My research has spanned cancer prevention, adjustment to chronic conditions, mental health, and health behaviour change, with international collaborations at Yale University and McGill University.

I have authored 40 peer-reviewed publications in health psychology and behavioural science and served as an associate editor for the British Journal of Health Psychology. I regularly present at national and international conferences, delivering invited talks and workshops.

Policy and Consultancy

I have a strong background in health policy and public health impact, having worked as a senior behavioural scienctist for the UK Department of Health and Social Care. In this role, I collaborated with Public Health England and senior NHS policymakers on initiatives to improve healthcare services. I was previously the Policy Lead for the British Psychological Society’s Division of Health Psychology, contributing to national guidance on behavioural science in health policy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was also a core member of the British Psychological Society’s COVID-19 Behavioural Science and Disease Prevention Taskforce, helping to shape policy guidance and behavioural health communications.

At present, I am the Psychologist Lead for the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), contributing to national practice and policy within complex obesity.

As a consultant, I have extensive experience delivering and contributing to psychology and behavioural science advisory panels, workshops and training, and strategic insights to healthcare professionals, organisations, and policymakers.

Awards and Recognition

I am honoured to have received three national awards for my contributions to health psychology, health research, and policy:

  • Best Public Health Professional Researcher (2019-20) – Awarded by NIHR and Public Health England for impact in psychology and cancer services.

  • Excellence in Health Psychology Early Career Award (2021) – Awarded by the British Psychological Society.

  • PhD/Doctoral Prize (2021) – Awarded by the Society of Academic Primary Care for research on the psychological aspects of cancer care.

My Approach and Values

I am committed to integrating psychological expertise, research, and policy impact to improve individual and population health. Whether working one-to-one with clients, leading research, or advising on national health strategy, I bring a compassionate, evidence-based, and results-driven approach to my work.

If you’re interested in therapy, consultancy, or collaboration, I’d love to hear from you.
